Shower Diverter Replacement
We replace the failed diverter that won't route water between your tub spout and shower head, fitting a new valve or spout-mounted diverter to the existing plumbing. Flow is tested in both positions to confirm a clean switch with no bleed-through. Flat-rate, upfront pricing from a licensed, insured plumber.

Diagnose Your Shower Diverter in Bucks & Montgomery County
Most shower diverter replacementsearches start with a symptom. Here's how to read what your unit is telling you — and when a swap beats a repair call.
Water comes out the tub spout AND the shower head at once?
Split water flow means the diverter inside the valve body has worn — it can no longer fully redirect water to the shower head. On most modern shower valves, the diverter is part of the cartridge and a $50-150 cartridge swap fixes it. On older 3-handle valves with a separate diverter stem, the diverter itself is the part that needs replacing.
Book a replacementDiverter handle is hard to turn or won't engage?
Stiff diverter handles come from mineral buildup binding the stem or from corroded splines where the handle meets the stem. Mineral cleaning helps short-term. Recurring stiffness means the underlying stem is failing — at that point a diverter swap is the durable fix. About 60 minutes for the standard work.
Book a replacementWhy is this so much more than a regular faucet swap?
Diverters live inside the shower valve body, which is set into the wall. Standard external swaps (handle, escutcheon) are quick. Internal diverter or cartridge swaps require shutting off the water, pulling the existing trim, replacing the cartridge or diverter assembly, and re-sealing. The $750 flat covers the labor plus standard cartridges; rare brands or specialty parts may run higher with prior quote.
Book a replacementShould we replace the whole valve instead?
If the valve body itself is leaking inside the wall (visible wet drywall, sometimes a downstairs ceiling stain), a full valve replacement is the right call — that's an open-wall job and not in our standard scope. If only the cartridge/diverter has failed and the valve body is sound, the swap stays inside our scope and the wall stays closed.
